INSTRUCTING THE LITTLE ONES

I am a Jr. horse riding instructor. I teach my little ones to ride barrels. They are doing very well, But they can be frustrating somtimes so here are some tips for training that little one.

1) If your little one struggles with his right and left you can use different colored bands to help him. Just slide the bands on the 1st knot in your Barrel reins. But remember choose two PRIMARY colors. its easier for them to understand if you do. also if you dont have the bands (which are also harder to see) then use bright colored vet wrap. always use colors that will show up on the pair of reins your using.

2) If the your little one struggles with his 2nd knot on the Barrel reins you can also use the vet wrap or bands so he will know which knot to use, like in suggestion #2 BUT get the same color for the 2nd knots so they wont get confused.

3) Last but not least if your little one doesnt know how to turn correctly on the Barrel rein then you can say slide your hand down to the 2nd knot or whatever color you chose and tell them to pull toward their pocket (the pocket of their jeans).
