Guide to Posting a Personal Ad

1) Be Honest! By far, the most important guideline is to be honest! There is nothing worse than to make false statements with the hope of attracting someone and telling them the truth after you fall in love. True love is based on honesty, when someone falls in love with a lie they have every right, and actually should, end it with you.
2) Check your spelling and grammar! While most people do not expect you to have a perfectly written ad it is a huge turn off when words are misspelled or if you grammar is very poor.
3) Keep it upbeat! People want to spend time with someone who is fun to be around so focus on the positive.
4) Avoid being angry! Your personal ad is not a place to complain about an ex-spouse/ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend who cheated on you or was less than loving. While all of our experiences are part of who we are it is likely not the first thing you want a prospective partner to know about. Bottom line, most everyone has been hurt more than once, we know how it feels and we can relate. However, it should not be the reason why we are looking for a relationship. Also, cheating types will still respond to your ad even if you put in it, “cheaters need not apply”. If they are low enough to cheat they will be low enough to ignore any statements like this.
5) Choose a catchy title! Something different, something that will grab the attention of others!
6) Be descriptive! Your personal ad should have enough information in it to grab someone’s attention. Having something along the lines of, “I Am Looking for a New Girlfriend,” will rarely grab anyone’s attention. However, “Hard Working Rancher Looking for a Life Partner” may be a bit more enticing. Let people know something about yourself and what you are looking for. However, try to keep your description to one paragraph, otherwise people may not read it!
7) Fill out all the information, the more you provide to people the better idea they will have if you are compatible.
8) Include a photo; personal ads with photos are far more likely to be responded too than those without.
9) Do not provide your e-mail address or contact information within the personal ad. Use the private message facilities provided as this will protect you from “stalker” types. Also, it will protect your e-mail address from spammers.
10) Change your ad on regular basis, go ahead and try a different title or a different description. Also, on Horse Lovers Central, you can have multiple ads. Feel free to post more than one ad, each with a different title and description. After all, its impossible to capture all that you are in one paragraph!
